Small-batch stoneware

Objects shaped slowly, made for everyday use.

Every piece is wheel-thrown, trimmed and glazed by hand in our little studio, then fired twice to 1280 °C. No two are ever quite the same.

How it's made

From clay to kiln

Each piece takes around three weeks from the first lump of clay to the finished object.

01

Wedging

Clay is kneaded by hand to remove air and align the particles.

02

Throwing

Shaped on the wheel, then left to dry slowly to leather-hard.

03

Trimming

Feet are carved and walls refined before the first bisque firing.

04

Glazing

Dipped in our own glazes and fired a second time to stoneware.

The studio

A small workshop with a big kiln

We are a two-person studio working out of an old print shop. We make functional pieces meant to be used every day, chipped occasionally, and loved for years.

"The best cup is the one you reach for without thinking. That is what we try to make." — Founders, Atelier Lumen
